This historical city was founded in the year 1266 and has about 15,000 inhabitants. Tavira is also known for having some of the most beautiful beaches of the Algarve and Portugal, all included in Ria Formosa Natural Park which covers the entire county coast. It’s separated from the sea by two dune bars: the Cabanas Island and the Tavira Island. In addition to the barrier islands, the Ria Formosa integrates a set of channels, salt marshes and swamplands.
The climate is temperate Mediterranean. The sea can reach pleasant temperatures during the summer and early autumn, which can be around 26 ° C in the warmer months.
